Burgundy Books

Burgundy Books was founded by Linda Williams in 2006, in East Haddam Connecticut. The original location of the bookstore was a few steps up from the Goodspeed Opera House and Theatre. The bookstore provides the best collection of books in Connecticut. Williams attended the University of Connecticut, Temple University, and the University of Pennsylvania. She continued on at Yale University as a department administrator at the Yale School of Management. She assisted in disseminating publications created at Yale for Hillary Clinton's and Paul Wellstone's Health Care initiatives during their tenure the White House. An article in the Yale Weekly Bulletin and Calendar chronicles her entrepreneurial spirit in the community.

The bookstore opened in its new Westbrook location in May of 2013. The staff organize workshops with writers towards publishing. Published authors give their time at these classes that unfold during 4 sessions. Tuition is $350, and is held at Water's Edge and other locations.

This community-oriented bookstore features a cafe which offers a wide variety of teas, coffee favorites, hot chocolate, cookies and baked goods in an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. Author events are usually held at the Water's Edge store in Westbrook as well as other community locations. Their community spirit is exemplified by a variety of projects, including a college scholarship in an effort to support higher education and leadership for the future.

PRAISE FOR Burgundy Books

"This is definitely one of the most down-to-earth independent bookstores I've been to in a while. Just the name itself hints at the warm atmosphere you feel once you walk in. There's a great variety of books, many of which the store hosts the authors for frequent book signing events (which are always a good time). The events are laid back with plenty of opportunity to get acquainted with both the authors and the owner of the store. And there's FOOD! Really good food and champagne at these events. The owner is so welcoming and makes you feel right at home when you walk in. She loves to strike up conversations with her customers. I'd say you can expect to enjoy your experience at this bookstore. " --Shay Nisbeth, Google Reviews
