Littlefield Truck

Robert Sharptook this photo last Summer while visiting his home town of Littlefield, Texas, which is a small cotton farming town just outside of Lubbock. Robert says that the town is dying, and he was struck by all of the decay, but also struck by the beauty.

Robert Sharp

"This image was created by a photographer who keeps his eyes open and his camera at the ready. Having traveled by car and truck through this part of Texas I have to say the photographer captured the feeling of a dying community. The rust contrasting with the blue and green oxidized paint all framed with scrag brush and the distant sunrise. Nice eye."

Second Prize

($50 and A signed copy of Big Cactus)

Escape

Taken in Tucson, Arizona during his senior year of high school, photographer Brett Melnick's work encapsulates the uniqueness of the scene as a lone cactus stands atop a waterfall in the elegant environment.

Brett Melnick, Brookeville, MD

"A classic environmental image. Beautifully framed with the green trees below and the blue sky with light clouds above. Then the waterfall down the rocky ledge with the lone cactus standing on the ridge. The light is falling on the cactus and the ridge with shadows starting to darken the lower trees and rocks. I would hang this one on my office wall. Nice eye."

"All that candy combined with the anticipation of two boys. Memories for both the boys and parents of a Floyd County store. Lots of color and texture plus the boys' anticipation creates an impact."
